There’s a recent thread by Rush Limbaugh (and others?) about “government-controlled media.” Here’s Rush as quoted by Talking Points Memo, emphasis mine:
Of course, the government-controlled media is not gonna report anything like this but there are a lot of people who are not going to buy from Chrysler or General Motors as long as it is perceived Barack Obama is running it, because people do not want his policy to work here because this is antithetical to the American economic way of life.
And here he is as quoted in Newsweek, emphasis mine:
It is offenseive to the sensibilities of millions of people hear a member of the state-run media [Evan Thomas of Newsweek] refer to a half-black half-white human being with no experience running anything of substance referred to as a god.
* Newsweek print edition, June 22, 2009, p. 8
I’m curious as to just which media he’s referring to, besides Newsweek. I guess the old chestnut of the liberal media no longer has much punch. But this ramps up the paranoia quotient considerably.
The media is only “liberal” when it doesn’t march in lockstep with the desires of the Republican Party.
Just like judges are “activists” when they don’t march in lockstep with the Republican Party.
Just like when folks are not “real” Americans when they don’t vote for the Republican Party.
Just like when folks are “unpatriotic” when they don’t march in lockstep with the whims of our former President.
I guess I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point…
